AbstractWith the popularity of digital cameras today, users are accumulating hundreds or thousands of digital photos. Digital photo management applications aid users in organizing and presenting their digital photos. These applications can help users with manual annotation, searching, and grouping. In recent years, several automation studies for these applications have been proposed to aid users as well. The studies include photo organization, content-based image retrieval, event-based retrieval, face-based image grouping, and automatic image annotation. This thesis aims to show how digital photo management could be improved with a union of automation studies. It will give a detailed description of each of these studies, an in-depth look at the challenges they face, and a description of the union of the studies.
